Day 8: Schechen to Spital am Pyhrn (Austria)

I leave Erlensee before any of the other campers have risen. The ground is still Muddy. Tent dewy again. I brew tea and pack.

Damn. The wobble is still there.
I think. Bent frame? Tyres again? I check. All fine. Experiment. Gently pulling front brake stops wobble...so must be in the front hub. I stop to check. Rock wheel top to bottom. Movement. I check the spindle bolt. Loose! Easy fix. I tighten it overseen by curious Austrian and his teen daughter. Usual questions. How many cubic? Where you come from? On this?
Why didn't I think of that. It's the obvious thing to check first. I suppose I was off track because I had my head full of flat tyres, messing with the rear and those cobbles.
The handling is perfect once more.
The road gently climbs. I pass mountain lakes and bright blue rivers. There is still enough snow for the skiers who rise above me and off into the peaks in their little cable cars.
Austria really is a spectacular country.

Climb up and up.

Arrived at farm in mountains. Views,
Its remarkably hot. It get out of the heavy bike gear and change to shorts and a t-shirt.
"Spring has come" remarks the young woman who asks when I would like breakfast.
I see a deer climbing the steep hill behind the farm.

There's a lot of preparation needed for tomorrow's ride into Slovenia.
Check weather forecast. Double check route and alternative routes. I really don't want to get lost this far up. I'm heading for a barn in a remote area near Celjne? I'm not sure how easily I will find it.

Fuel should be ok. I filled just before arriving.
Thermals or not. Big question?

For now, I take the chance to have a shower and do a little laundry.
The temperature drops suddenly once the sun goes down. They've provided thick blankets which I wrap myself up in. There's no heating on. Hardy folks these mountain farmers.
